Gena (Lennemann) Heires was born on April 24 1922 in Snyder, NE; died April 13 following a stroke. Gena was a loving mother, grandmother, and devoted wife of 41 years.
She was very active in the St. Gerald’s parish throughout her life and was a consummate childcare provider, sick-nurse and companion to the elderly.
Her childhood in small town Snyder, NE as the ninth of eleven siblings during the depression left her with an indelible no-nonsense approach to life.
Her favored expressions would include: “waste not, want not,” “make do with what you’re given,” and “hard work never killed anyone.” She could teach government agencies a few things about how to stretch a penny. She was an enthusiastic gardener, a skilled seamstress, and deadly with a slingshot when terrorizing squirrels in her fruit trees.
Preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Alfred Heires (Carroll, IA) and ten siblings. She is survived by children, Barb and Mike Slattery, Nehawka, NE, Kathy and Ken Hanson, Ralston, NE, Art and Peggy Heires, Omaha, NE, and Jim and Christine Heires, Cedar Rapids, IA, grandchildren, Jessica (Camille Vaillon) Slattery, Sarah Slattery, Michael (Sierra) Slattery, Alex Heires, John Heires and Paul Heires; great grandchildren, Ellie, Julia, Emma, Mikey, Teddy and Gaby.
