Russell David Markworth was born October 31, 1970, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Earl and Alana Markworth (Lundquist). He peacefully began his Heavenly rest on May 21, 2024.
He attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Grand Island Northwest High School in 1989. Russ was a very fun guy to be around. Russell loved sports, all of them. He played basketball in high school, for Hastings Community College and later for the Offutt Air Force Base Basketball team.
Russ or “Reddog” as he was known by his many friends and family members, was always up for a game whether it basketball, golf, bowling, trivia or numerous others. Russ had more trivia stored in his brain than most people can absorb in a lifetime. Everyone wanted to be on Russ’s team for trivia or bowling. He bowled several 300 and nearly 300 games!
Russell joined the United States Air Force where he served for 14 years. Russell won the Air Force Base Championships in Basketball, Bowling, Football, and Darts. Russ was named Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for the 97th Intelligence Squadron in 2002.
Russell truly enjoyed his hobbies however, the joy of his life were his three sons, Isaiah, Tiernan, and Noah. Russell’s own words stated, “My number one goal is and always will be to have three successful, respectful, useful, and purposeful young men.” Russell liked to share his love of sports with his sons and was so very proud of each of their successes. Russ was quick to tell others of his sons’ successes in athletics, education, and band. His sons’ names were frequently woven into his conversations with family and friends. Russell was incredibly proud of them!
Russell is survived by his three precious sons: Isaiah Markworth, Tiernan Markworth, and Noah Markworth. As well as his sons’ Mother Tiffany Hill. His Mother Alana Markworth, sister Deb Whitmire and spouse Tom, brother Doug Markworth and spouse Terssa, several nieces and nephews, great nephews, and great nieces. As well as numerous cousins, family members and many friends. He will be greatly missed. Russell was preceded in death by his Father Earl A. Markworth.
For those attending Russell’s service, we think it would be an honor to him, if you so choose, to wear Husker attire or the color red to honor his love for the Huskers and him as “Reddog”.
