Lyle “Scott” Johnson (1950-2025) was a father and grandfather who shared his lifelong passion for music and performance with his family, friends, and the Omaha community. A builder and mechanic by trade throughout his life, he was a beloved fixture of the Omaha open mic scene in his later years.
Scott is survived by his children Rick Johnson (Sarah), Tim Johnson (Nicki) and Carrie Johnson (Andrew Schaper), his grandchildren Elsie, Tyler, Isaac, Everett, Charlie, Cary, Atley, and Cali, as well as his sister, Jane Stroud (Larry) and his longtime friend, Lowell Eyer.
Scott strongly believed in supporting anyone brave enough to stand in front of a microphone. Over the years, he played in a variety of bands, including the Persuaders (with Lowell), Nineteen Inside (with Tim), and Badger Hounds. He delighted in filling any band or musician friend’s need, whether as bassist, guitarist, singer, or audience member. Rick, Tim, and Carrie all inherited his love of music and performance.
Scott was clever at fixing virtually anything that was broken. He repaired and rehabilitated cars, vintage tractors, musical instruments, and devices of all types. He built new houses, renovated old homes, made spaces of all kinds beautiful, and completed every project–big and small–to his own exacting standards.
Although he lived in many places, one place was Scott’s true home. Benson is where he grew up, graduated high school, and lived the last 20 years of his life in a quintessential neighborhood home that he lovingly renovated himself (no doubt while listening to music).
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Johnson (nee Malum) and Lyle Johnson.
