Preceded in death by first wife, Juliet (Loomis) Fitzgarrald; siblings, Kenneth Fitzgarrald, Marie Glick, June Loudon, and daughter-in-law, Laura Fitzgarrald. Survived by wife of 36 years, Betty; one sibling, Almeda Kovach of Dover, NJ; five children, Kathy (Vaughn) Trask of Tekamah, NE, Diane Fitzgarrald of Green Valley, AZ, James (Cheryl) Fitzgarrald, Jr. of Omaha, NE, Vicki Dodge of Citrus Heights, CA, and Chris Fitzgarrald of Omaha, NE; four step-children, Jane (Russ) Thomas of St. Louis, MO, Jim Clipperton of Omaha, NE, Dee (Rich) Haglund of Butterfield, MN, and Ken (Julie) Clipperton of Gretna, NE; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
James proudly served in the U.S. Army and was severely injured in the invasion of Okinawa on April 27, 1945, and received the Purple Heart.
He went to business college to become a bookkeeper, his occupation for 38 years. He also worked as a part time cab driver for many years.
James was married to Juliet Louva Loomis on June 14, 1948 until her death in 1977. In 1979 he found happiness again with Betty Clipperton, marrying on September 15.
The family wishes to extend our appreciation to the Douglas County Health Center staff for their wonderful care of James.
All who knew James will miss his beautiful smile, teasing sense of humor, his kindness and thoughtfulness. He was always willing to help his children through any difficult time in their lives.
Services:
Saturday, February 20, 2016 11am at Mt. View Presbyterian Church, 5308 Hartman Ave., Omaha NE. Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation:
Friday, February 19 from 6-8pm at John A. Gentleman Mortuaries 72nd Street Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Mt. View Presbyterian Church and the Open Door Mission.
