Stephen Vermaas, 76, of Omaha, Nebraska passed away on July 6, 2024 peacefully in his home, surrounded by family.

Stephen was born on July 30, 1947 to Martin and Bernice Vermaas in Sioux City, Iowa. After Stephen graduated from Central High School in 1966 he went on to pursue studies at Faith Baptist Bible College of Ankeny, Iowa.

 Stephen joined the Army (1968-1972) followed by the National Guard (1974-1994). He valued his service highly and attained the rank of E5. As part of this service, he spent 13 months overseas in Korea during the Vietnam war. He also worked for the United States Postal Service for 31 years.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Bernice Vermaas; wife, Kathy and brother in law, James Goering. Survived by children, Jimmy (Jill) Vermaas, Melody (Scott) Hecht, Tanya (Craig) Kohler, and Lindsay (Tyler) Andrews; stepchildren, Karin Tippit, Vicky Warren and Robert Warren; 14 grandchildren, Hunter, Tanner and Maddisen Vermaas, Carissa (John) Brunk, John, Joshua, Anna, Jacob and Ella Hecht, Timothy and Dawn Kohler, Julia, Emily and Henry Andrews; 2 great grandchildren, Amara Vermaas and Audrey Brunk; siblings, Gloria Goering, Sue (Rik) Reuter, Tim (Susan) Vermaas, and Carol (Amal) Bejjani and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Memorial Service will be held at Heartland Bible Church 2611 S. 56th St, Lincoln, NE on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024 at 11:00am, followed by fellowship and inurnment at Firth Cemetery. Stephen had a great passion for politics and the republican party and would have liked you to consider a donation to the Donald J. Trump Presidential Campaign in lieu of flowers.
