Steven L. Kisby

Steven LaRoy Kisby, 82, was born on April 4th, 1940. He passed away on April 22nd, 2022 at his home in Council Bluffs, IA. He was born and raised in Glenwood, IA, one of 6 children to Ernest and Winifred Kisby.



Steve graduated from Glenwood High School in 1958. While still in high school, he served in the Iowa National Guard (1956-1958). He then joined the U.S. Marine Corp (1958-1961), which was a very important part of Steve’s life. Since childhood, it was his dream to become a Marine. He was proud to serve for 3 years, achieving the rank of Corporal. It was in the Marines that Steve was invited to go on a blind date where he met the love of his life, his wife Judy.



To that nearly 61-year marriage, Steve and Judy had 4 children, Larry, Stacey, Shelly and Steven.



After his military days, Steve and Judy returned to Iowa. Steve had an amazing work ethic, spanning two careers over 50 years. He worked at Vickers Inc, Omaha for 35 years. He was the plant superintendent for the Vane line, missing only a handful of days in all that time. After leaving Vickers, Steve and Judy moved to Janesville, WI where Steve was the Maintenance Superintendent at Lear Corporation on an assembly line making parts for GM vehicles. He retired in 2008 after working another 15 years.



Steve was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Winifred Kisby and his sister Sharon Carlberg. He is survived by children Larry (Lori) Kisby, Fremont, NE; Stacey (Richard) Atkinson, Council Bluffs, IA; Shelly (Fred) Thomas, Casper, WY; and Steven (Megan) Kisby, Frisco, TX. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Alex, Paul and Jessica, Adam, Jordan and Brandon, Hannah. Also 6 great grandchildren, Delaney, Grayson, Hayden, Charley, Holland, Evelyn. Brothers Charles Kisby; Scott (Debbie) Kisby; Sisters Susan (Jerry) Roberts; Annette (Dan) VanBlaricom. Nieces, Nephews and many other family and friends.



Steve had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed laughing and being in the company of friends and family. Steve loved football, and was a fan of the Raiders for more than 60 years. Also Nascar and a good Western, especially if John Wayne was the star.



He was an amazing husband and father. His family will miss him very much.





Graveside Service Wednesday, 11:00am at Omaha National Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the ASPCA.
