Tommy Cogan’s Wonderful Life
February 24, 1961 – November 7, 2024
Thomas G. Cogan (Tommy) was born in Omaha, NE on February 24, 1961, to Richard and Jane (McGraw) Cogan. In March 1990 at the age of 28 Tom moved into the home of Rick and Lori Elliott where he instantly became a member of their growing family. Tommy relished helping raise and guide his new younger siblings Alex, Sam and Hannah with a loving and caring simplicity that the children embraced and adored.
Tom was a devout Catholic with a strong faith and deep love of God. That love was expressed through his relationships with family, friends, neighbors, cohorts and even strangers…never knowing a stranger! He loved life and was filled with gratitude for even the simplest of things he encountered each day.
Tom worked in a vocational training program for many years where he took great pride in his accomplishments. He was extremely proud on payday when he was rewarded for his efforts, but the social interactions and friendships he developed were Tom’s greatest reward.
Favorite activities included family dinners, BBQs, vacations, holidays, parties, running errands, grocery shopping, yard work, going out to eat, attending sporting events, movies, bowling, swimming, music, dancing, karaoke, playing drums and so many more.
Tom was preceded in death by parents, Richard and Jane (McGraw) Cogan. Survived by co-parents Rick and Lori Elliott of Omaha, NE; sister Hannah (Jason) Peck of Omaha, NE; brothers, Alex (Diana) Elliott of Omaha, NE; and Sam Elliott of Omaha, NE; sister Katie (Ric) Mittleider of Everett, WA; sister Molly Cogan of San Francisco, CA; brother Dennis (Joan) Cogan of Bentonville, AR; nephew Michael (Leigh) Cogan of Fayetteville, AR; niece Rylin Cogan of Ogden, UT; nieces and nephews Jay Jay Peck, Zazie, Ziggy and Zoe Elliott of Omaha, NE that refer to Tom as “Grandpa Tommy”; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
