Thomas Ira Wright, 86, of Omaha, died at home on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
Born on June 13, 1930, he was the son of the late Corey J. Wright Sr. and Iris M. Wright (Thompson), and was preceded in death by his brother, Brigadier General Corey Jefferson Wright, and his aunt Fern Ploss (Thompson).
A beloved uncle, he is survived by his nieces Merri Jo Wright and her husband John (Buddy) Garrrett of Adamstown, Maryland, and Suzanne M. Wright and her husband John Taube of Cumberland, Maryland; along with his grand-nephews John Corey Garrett and John H.N. Taube, and grand-niece Murphy Taube.
Tom was a life-long resident of Omaha. He attended Central High School and served in the Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1954. He was a decorated firefighter for the City of Omaha Fire Department and served 31 years until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed staying fit and active and could often be seen at the YMCA. He was a daily communicant at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church and was a regular volunteer there. Tom was a humble and devout man who spent his later years caring for his mother and aunt while volunteering at many local Catholic charities.
Services:
A mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 10:00am at St. Margaret Mary’s Church, 6116 Dodge Street, Omaha NE with Father Greg Baxter, celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
