Virginia R. Bohi

August 5, 1943 — November 16, 2024

Omaha, NE

Virginia Ruth Bohi was born August 5, 1943 in Estherville, IA, the youngest child and only daughter of Rev. William and Esther (Michener) Bohi. As the daughter of a minister, she had many hometowns, including Estherville, Graettinger, Swea City, Havelock, and Riceville in Iowa, Geneva, Nebraska, and Redfield, South Dakota. She graduated from Havelock-Plover High School. She attended Doane and Morningside colleges, graduating from Buena Vista College.

She worked as a school librarian for a time, but settled into a career in medical coding. She lived and worked in Minneapolis, Cleveland, and Daytona Beach, returning to Cleveland for the last decades of her career. In addition to her employment, she was the caregiver for both of her parents as they aged, providing both physical and emotional support through the ends of their lives.

Animals provided Virginia great joy. She had dogs when she was younger, then had cats as her companions for many years. She also volunteered at a cat shelter in Cleveland. In addition, she was an active member of a Unitarian church and a hiking club in Cleveland. After her move to Omaha she enjoyed eating with friends, playing cards and Bingo at Heritage Pointe.

As her health declined in the last several months, Virginia was not able to get out of her apartment as often as she had, but was happy to see friends when she made her trips downstairs. She fell and broke her hip on November 11, and passed away comfortably at Methodist Hospital on November 16.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers John and Bruce, sister-in-law Janice, and nephew Scott Bohi. She is survived by her brothers Daniel (Barbara) and Charles (Lynn), nieces Lynne Bohi, Becky (Jim) Reilly, and Kathy (Mark) Wilson, and nephews Bob Bohi and Craig (Solange) Bohi, as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
