Wayne Michael Kurtz

Wayne Michael Kurtz age 76 of Omaha, NE passed away on June 3, 2023. He is preceded in death by his Father Michael Kurtz, Mother Francis Kurtz, Brother, Ken Kurtz and Great Grand Daughter Oaklee McSweeney.

Wayne was born on July 12, 1946 to Michael and Francis Kurtz in Chicago, Il.

Wayne graduated from Mendel Catholic High School and went on to study at Labette community College in Parson, KS where he met his wife, Sharon. They married on March 23, 1968.

Wayne was a jack of all trades and a master of most. Wayne joined the Chicago Police Department in 1968. After a few years in the police department, he left to open The Red Bull restaurant in Parsons, KS where he became a town favorite. Deciding he wanted more time with his family, he joined the Katy Railroad where he worked for several years before transferring to Denison, Texas. His love of the railroad continued for the remainder of his career retiring in 2006 from Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha.

Although Wayne had a successful career with the railroad, nothing compared to his love for his family. Wayne & Sharon have 4 children – Tiffany Kurtz-Sewall (Husband Chris – Children Landry, Grant) Todd Kurtz (Wife Sandy – Children – Ashley, Chase & Madison) Ty Kurtz (Wife Roxann – Children – Trey, Chyann, Lane & Kolton) Taylor Agnew (Husband – Jason – Children Reagan, Easton, Gage & Gavin). A large family with 4 kids, 13 Grandkids and 7 great grandkids) where most everyone gathered every year for Christmas where Wayne’s handmade holiday decorations illuminated the Omaha skies. Wayne was also loved by his nephew/nieces, brother n- laws, sister n- laws, cousins and friends.

In addition to his family Wayne had many loves in life including woodworking, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Gardening and Fantasy Football. After 11 years Wayne FINALLY won the annual Fantasy Football League Tournament in 2023, his first ever – Wayne went out a winner!

Services will be held Saturday June 10th at St Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Omaha, NE. A Celebration Of Life will follow at noon at Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse – 305 N. 170TH St. Omaha NE.
