William “Bill” J. Pazderka was born on September 4, 1934 to Anton and Mary (Tondl) Pazderka in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away Monday, October 25, 2021 in Omaha.
Bill always will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed Husker football, Creighton men’s basketball, playing poker and was an avid walker. He loved to fish and would plan many family vacations to destinations that would accommodate his favorite past time. He was known for his many stories of growing up in Omaha, working for the railroad and serving in the army in Germany. He was a hard worker, had a great sense of humor and loved to draw, especially abstract art.
Bill attended Holy Cross grade school and Creighton Prep High School. He graduated from high school in 1952, and after his first year of college he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. After his return, he went back to college at Creighton University to pursue a Pharmacy degree. While attending a dance at Cathedral, he met his future wife, Antonette “Toni” Rzeszotarski. They were married September 8, 1956. Over the next eighteen years, they welcomed seven children: Mike, Mary, Joanne, Joe, Karen, Anne and Tosia.
In May 1959, he graduated from Pharmacy School and went to work for Walgreens and then GEM, a pharmacy chain. In the spring of 1972, Bill opened his own drug store in the town of Elkhorn, Nebraska. He owned and operated Bill’s Elkhorn Drugs until 2000.
In retirement he continued rooting for the Huskers, fishing, walking and playing poker. His other retirement pastimes included playing cribbage, going to Creighton men’s basketball games, reading and watching Pawn Stars. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, sharing his stories and teaching them valuable lessons. He helped his grandsons build their pinewood derby cars and would spend hours designing and drawing the perfect car. He was a stamp and coin collector and enjoyed researching these hobbies.
Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Toni and their children: Mary (Tim) Murphy, Joanne (Steve) Cordwin, Joe (Margaret) Pazderka, Karen (Kevin) Marx, Anne (John) Supeh, Tosia (Jeremy) Wieser; his 21 grandchildren: Max, Rachel, Jamie, Chris, Bailey, Matthew, Josh, Timmy, Anthony, Maggie, Clara, Raiko, Desi, Leo, Ryan, Justin, Maisie, Mirin, Caedmon, Asher, Ezekiel; six great-grandchildren; his sisters Louise Vayda and Cathy Hammer, his brother John Pazderka; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
