Retired Master Sergeant William “Bill” Roche, also known as “Papa Roche,” was born March 13, 1945, and peacefully passed away on May 20, 2023, in Omaha, Nebraska. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Bernice Roche, as well as his younger brother, Tom. He is survived by his loving wife, Terri; his brother, Dick; his five children: Ron (Dawn), Tami (Kwamy), Andy (Ruth), Kelly (Jason), Peggy; as well as his ex-wife Trish.
Bill exemplified unwavering dedication and led a life of integrity, displaying steadfast commitment to his family, community, and country. He was a volunteer fire fighter and first responder for more than 25 years, retired from the U.S. Air Force after over 23 years of honorable service, and was a Vietnam veteran. Throughout his military career in the USAF, he had the opportunity to live in various countries and cities around the world.
His family cherished him dearly for his unyielding determination, firm yet caring nature, and unwavering dedication to serving the greater good. Despite self-identifying as a bit of a curmudgeon, he possessed a generous and compassionate heart that touched the lives of many.
Bill was beloved by his grandchildren: Germaine (Koro), Ashley, Aaron, Tyler, Adam, Dean, Lily (Alec), Chase (Joslyn), Michela, Maddy, Jessi, Nikki; as well as his great-grandchildren: Eva, Isabella, Keely, Jazlyn, Neveah, Layla, Vella, Orlanna, Esther, and Ezra, and Natalia.
Bill’s legacy of love and service will continue to inspire and be remembered by all whose lives he touched.
MEMORIAL SERVICE Thursday, May 25, 2023, 12:00pm at the 72nd Street Chapel with interment of the urn at 3:30pm in Omaha National Cemetery.
Visitation with the family one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Wounded Warrior Project or the Salvation Army.
