On February 7, 1994, Zachary Tyler Borrell was born in Hastings, Nebraska to Michelle Tanga (née Brown) and Mark Borrell 9 weeks premature. But even then, he was resilient and grew into a healthy, happy baby. As the child of 2 teenage parents, Zach grew up surrounded by the love and support of his grandma, mother, aunts, uncles, and other extended family.
Growing up, Zach gained another dad when his mom married Tom Tanga. Through this marriage, Zach was blessed with 6 siblings that he loved and cared for dearly: Kira, Ayden, Gabrielle, Isabelle, Ethan, and Cole. Zach's biological father also married Stephanie Borrell and gave him 4 additional siblings: Bailey, Brady, Bryce, and Bella.
Zach graduated from Millard High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 2012 and began working at the Nebraska Department of Corrections shortly after in 2014. In 2021, Zach began working at Douglas County Corrections. Zach had dreams of being an endocrinologist, inspired by his wife and mother's academic accomplishments and his passion for health and fitness. He was a current full-time student at Metropolitan Community College.
In 2018, Zach met his soulmate, Tia Borrell (née McCullough). At the time, Tia was a single mother to 1-year-old Carter Philip. As Tia and Zach's relationship flourished, so did the relationship between Carter and Zach. On October 9, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tia and Zach got married among a small gathering of family and friends. Even before marriage, Zach was a proud dad and loved Carter with his whole heart. Tia and Zach lost a baby to miscarriage in March 2021 and did not have any other biological or adopted children. Despite all odds or challenges, Tia and Zach were best friends and shared a love that will outlast his lifetime.
Throughout his life, Zach persevered through many challenges, no matter how big or small. The biggest being sobriety. Before his death, Zach had been sober for over a year. This was a huge accomplishment that he was so proud of.
Zach's interests included cars, anime, video games, tattoos, music, fitness, lifting, health, human rights, politics, TikTok, YouTube, food, and so much more.
The most important thing for everyone to remember about Zach Borrell is that he was happy. He loved life. He loved being a husband, a dad, a son, a brother, and a friend. Zach made an impact on every single person he met, had a smile more beautiful than the sun, and loved unconditionally.
Zach passed away at home August 23, 2022 in Omaha. He will never be forgotten.
