Zolana Baumel

Zolana (Zoe) Baumel, age 67, passed away peacefully at Josie Harper Hospice House on July 9, 2024 following a long illness. Zoe always exhibited a thirst for knowledge and was known by all as a life-long learner. She eagerly studied economics, healthcare, and calculus and earned two bachelor’s degrees, a master’s degree and in 2018 she reached personal goal of obtaining her doctorate degree. 

Zoe‘s life of recovery was filled with many adventures that brought her much joy. Power lifting, remodeling our homes, taking classes for ‘fun’, and cruising in the Caribbean were some of her favorite activities. 

As a committed Mercy Associate her foundation of giving back to others became critically important to Zoe. Whether engaging in community events as a Mercy Associate, Rotary Member or with her Toastmasters group, Zoe lived out her desire to help those less fortunate.

 Zoe is survived by her spouse of 38 years, Jean Sassatelli, brothers Tim (Lisa) Alkire and Andy (Wendy) Alkire, nieces Kristin Alkire, Alicia Benedict, and Brionna Smith; the Sassatelli Family, and her many dear friends. Zoe was preceded in death by her parents, Zoland & Orvella (McGilvray) Alkire.
